For some funds that invest in shares or bonds, the assets in that fund may be used for the purpose of securities lending in order to earn an additional return for the fund. While securities lending increases the level of risk within a fund it provides an opportunity to increase the investment return.
Manager commentary - March 2026
Global markets weakened in March, as war in the Middle East saw energy prices rise and reignite inflation concerns, leading investors to adopt a risk-off approach. All global market regions struggled in March, although the US market recovered some of its previous 2026 underperformance relative to Europe and Asia. On a sector basis, energy was unsurprisingly the leading performer (and the only sector with a positive return). Utilities and technology sectors were the best of the rest. Bond markets were also down as expectations for lower interest rates fell because of higher inflation concerns, impacting investor demand.

Common questions about Bank of Ireland Life Managed Security.
Managed Security (Series 2) aims to generate modest capital growth over the long term by investing in income-generating assets globally, with income reinvested in the fund. The fund can invest across bonds, cash, equities and property, so its portfolio is not limited to one asset class. Managed Security (Series 2) is actively managed by State Street Investment Management.
Managed Security (Series 2) is global, but it is not just a pure equity fund. Its holdings include a mix of North American, European, Japanese, U.K., Pacific Basin and other regional equities, alongside bonds, cash and property. That wider mix can help spread investments across different markets and asset types.
Managed Security (Series 2) has major positions in large global companies such as Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia Corporation and Taiwan Semiconductor. It also holds names like American Tower, Johnson & Johnson, VISA and Walmart. This suggests the fund has meaningful exposure to established global businesses across technology, healthcare and consumer sectors.
Managed Security (Series 2) is designed for investors seeking modest capital growth over the long term and who can invest for at least 5 to 7 years. Its low to medium risk profile may appeal to investors looking for a diversified, globally invested fund rather than a more aggressive growth portfolio. The fund may suit those comfortable with a mix of equities, bonds, cash and property.
Managed Security (Series 2) is described as carrying low to medium risk, and its key stated risk is sustainability risk. That means environmental, social or governance issues could affect the value of its investments if they hurt a company’s prospects or reputation. The fund may also use securities lending, which can add risk because assets are temporarily loaned out to try to earn extra return.
