Securities lending

Some funds may use shares or bonds held for the purposes of securities lending. While this increases the level of risk within a fund it provides an opportunity to increase the investment return.

Manager commentary - March 2026

Equity markets fell throughout March as sentiment weakened across regions. All regions saw declines. US stocks were choppy, Europe declined and Asia saw sharper pullbacks, with Japan and China under pressure. The political backdrop turned tense after the US and Israel carried out attacks on Iranian military and energy sites and Iran responded, raising fears of a wider conflict and pushing oil prices sharply higher. The geopolitical shock added to market caution, leaving investors more defensive as the month ended.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about New Ireland iFunds Equities.

iFunds Equities S3 R invests mainly in a range of underlying equity funds, with some cash exposure. The fund is designed to spread money across different global fund managers and styles rather than relying on one manager or one market. Its holdings include global, U.S., emerging markets and technology-focused funds, reflecting a broadly diversified equity approach.

iFunds Equities S3 R is built to manage risk by diversifying across multiple funds, regions and managers so that no single source of return dominates. Bank of Ireland Investment Markets says this is intended to provide multiple sources of potential return while keeping risk consistent with the fund’s risk level. The fund also notes that some underlying funds may use securities lending, which can increase risk in return for the chance of higher returns; securities lending means the fund temporarily lends out shares or bonds to another party.

iFunds Equities S3 R is aimed at medium- to long-term investors, with a recommended holding period of at least 5-7 years. It seeks capital growth over that period, but it is classified as High Risk and its value can rise and fall over time. This means it is intended for investors who can tolerate short-term volatility and remain invested through market ups and downs.

iFunds Equities S3 R is different because it is a fund of funds, meaning it invests in several underlying equity funds rather than holding only individual shares. The approach gives it exposure to different global managers such as Arrowstreet, Dodge & Cox, Driehaus, Schroder and Walter Scott, plus both active and passive equity strategies. This can create a broader set of return drivers than a single-manager equity fund.

iFunds Equities S3 R carries equity market risk, so its value can move sharply when stock markets fall or become volatile. It also has sustainability risks, meaning environmental, social or governance issues could affect some underlying investments and their returns. Because the fund is globally invested, shifts in different regions such as the US, Europe or emerging markets can also affect performance.
