Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Standard Life Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund.

The Standard Life Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund invests fully in the Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund. It is designed to hold a representative sample of euro-denominated government fixed income securities, mainly treasury and government bonds from eurozone countries with maturities greater than one year. The fund aims to mirror the Bloomberg Barclays Euro Government Float Adjusted Bond Index, so its holdings are shaped by that index rather than by active stock-picking.

The Standard Life Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund seeks to provide returns consistent with the Bloomberg Barclays Euro Government Float Adjusted Bond Index by using an index sampling approach. That means it does not necessarily hold every security in the index, but instead buys a representative sample that is intended to behave similarly to the full index. As a result, it may not match the index perfectly at all times.

The Standard Life Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund faces index tracking risk and index sampling risk, because its holdings may not exactly match the index it follows. It also carries credit risk, liquidity risk, inflation risk and counterparty risk. Credit risk means issuers might not meet their obligations, liquidity risk means some bonds may be harder to buy or sell quickly, and counterparty risk means another party involved in a transaction could fail to pay or deliver as agreed.

The Standard Life Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund is built for investors who want broad exposure to eurozone government bonds in line with a market-weighted index. Because it is passively managed and focused on bonds issued by eurozone treasuries and governments, it may suit someone looking for a core government bond holding rather than an active strategy. Its income is reinvested and reflected in the unit price, so the return is designed to build up through the fund price rather than cash distributions.

Yes. The Standard Life Vanguard Euro Government Bond Index Fund can use derivatives either to help meet its investment objective or to protect against price and currency movements. It may also use securities lending to try to earn extra return and help offset costs. Derivatives are financial contracts whose value depends on another asset, so they can add complexity and risk.
