Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund.

The Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund invests fully in the Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund, which holds Eurozone equities. It aims to replicate the MSCI EMU Index by holding all or similar securities to those in the index, with a focus on large and mid-cap companies across developed market countries in the EMU. Income received by the Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund is reinvested and reflected in the unit price.

The Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund uses a passive, index-tracking approach rather than trying to pick individual winners. It seeks to match the MSCI EMU Index by investing in a portfolio of the same or similar securities held in that index. Because it is an index fund, its returns are intended to move up and down with the benchmark rather than outperform it consistently.

The Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund is mainly exposed to Eurozone markets, including French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Belgian, Finnish and Irish equities. Its main sector exposures include Financials, Industrials, Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary. This means investors are taking broad equity exposure to the Eurozone rather than a narrow theme or single country.

The Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund carries equity risk, so its value can rise and fall with stock markets. It also has index tracking risk and index sampling risk, which mean it may not perfectly match the MSCI EMU Index and may hold only a representative selection of index securities. The fund also mentions counterparty risk, liquidity risk, derivatives use and securities lending; counterparty risk is the chance that another party involved in a transaction fails to meet its obligations.

Yes, the Standard Life Vanguard Eurozone Stock Index Fund may use derivatives for efficient portfolio management, risk reduction, or to help meet its investment objective, including protection against price and currency movements. It may also use securities lending to earn additional return and help offset fund costs. Derivatives are financial contracts whose value depends on another asset, so they can add complexity and risk even when used for risk management.
