Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index

Fixed Income

Bond - Index-linked

The Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index Fund invests fully in the Vanguard Global Bond Index Fund. It seeks to provide returns consistent with the Bloomberg Barclays Global Aggregate Float Adjusted and Scaled Index (the “Index”), a market-weighted index comprised of global government, government related agencies, corporate and securitised fixed income investments. It aims to track the performance (up and down) of the Index by investing in a portfolio that, insofar as possible and practicable, consists of a representative sample of the component securities of the Index. This market-weighted index is designed to reflect the total universe of investment-grade and government bonds with maturities greater than one year. Income received by the fund will be reinvested and reflected in the unit price of the fund. Non-euro denominated assets held in the fund will generally be hedged back to euros.

ESG & sustainability

This is a passively managed fund and aims to track the performance of a specified index by holding a portfolio of all or similar securities held in the index itself. The underlying index that this fund tracks is not an ESG aligned index and does not incorporate ESG criteria when considering companies for inclusion in the index itself. As such this Fund does not incorporate Environmental, Social or Governance (ESG) considerations into the investment strategy, nor are there any specific ESG screens applied for investments to be eligible for inclusion in the fund. Vanguard Asset Management (Europe), the investment manager of the Fund, believe that active stewardship helps to create long-term value for investors. As an investment product and service provider and distributor, Vanguard Europe has a responsibility to maximise long-term returns for investors and considers sustainability risks from a financial-impact perspective. Vanguard Europe fulfils its responsibility to investors by being judicious in the funds it offers, managing those funds with rigour and assessing material risks to long-term financial performance.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index.

The Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index (EUR Hedged) Fund invests fully in the Vanguard Global Bond Index Fund, which aims to track a broad global bond index. It primarily holds government, government-related, corporate and securitised fixed income securities from around the world. The index is designed to reflect investment-grade and government bonds with maturities greater than one year.

The Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index (EUR Hedged) Fund seeks to match the Bloomberg Barclays Global Aggregate Float Adjusted and Scaled Index as closely as possible. It does this by holding a representative sample of the index’s component securities rather than every single bond. This approach can lead to small differences between the fund and the index, known as index tracking risk and index sampling risk; these mean the fund may not perfectly mirror the benchmark at all times.

The Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index (EUR Hedged) Fund generally hedges non-euro denominated assets back to euros. In plain language, hedging is a way of reducing the impact of exchange-rate moves on returns for a euro-based investor. This means the fund is designed to limit currency fluctuations from bonds held in other currencies, although some currency risk may still remain.

The Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index (EUR Hedged) Fund is exposed to several bond-market risks, including credit risk, inflation risk, liquidity risk, counterparty risk and currency risk. Credit risk means a bond issuer could fail to make payments; inflation risk means rising prices can reduce the value of fixed income returns in real terms; liquidity risk means some holdings may be harder to buy or sell quickly. Because it tracks an index, it also carries index tracking risk and index sampling risk.

Yes, the Standard Life Vanguard Global Bond Index (EUR Hedged) Fund may use derivatives for efficient portfolio management, to reduce risk, or to help meet its investment objective. It can also use derivatives to protect against price and currency movements. In addition, the fund’s assets may be used for securities lending to generate extra return and help offset costs; this can involve counterparty risk, which means the other party to a transaction could fail to meet its obligations.
